STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?
We welcome your questions, requests or comments.
What does Pónaire Mean?
Where do you roast your coffees?
Ponaire has 4 staff members certified to roast on our Deidrich CR-35 Roaster. We import all our own beans and roast in our Roastery in Newport Tipperary. Customers can see us roast through the windows in our café.
Do you do roast decaf coffee?
Yes, Ponaire roasts Swiss-Water Processed decaf coffee from the largest decaffeination Plant in Columbia. The Swiss Water Process is a chemical free way of removing the caffeine from the coffee.
How do you source your coffees?
Ponaire receives samples from coffee farmers around the world. We sample roast the coffees and if they meet our standards and requirements, we order sacs of them. We often visit farms to meet the growers and build relationships with them. We use the expertise of Brokers to import the beans for us, so we can concentrate on what we do best – roasting the coffee. We have long-standing relationships with Farms and our Brokers to ensure the highest quality of beans that are ethically and sustainably sourced.
Do you provide training?
Yes, we have a Barista School on site at our roastery in Newport, Tipperary. We have a Certified Speciality Coffee Trainer on our team who conducts the training. We list our training sessions here in our News and Events section, on Instagram, FaceBook, and X. You can also email info@ponaire.ie to get our latest training schedule.
Do you do wholesale?
Yes, we supply cafes, hotels, restaurants, offices, and golf courses. There is a minimum order quantity to receive the wholesale pricing. You can email an enquiry to info@ponaire.ie to get more details.
Are there health benefits to coffee?
Coffee contains caffeine, the most commonly consumed stimulant in the world and is widely used to benefit alertness as well as physical performance. It is also commonly linked to weight loss as caffeine can also increase a person’s metabolic rate by anywhere between 3-11%. Coffee also contains nutrients such as B2, B3, B5, Manganese and Potassium which are recommended as part of a healthy diet. Studies are inconclusive but coffee has also been linked to various health benefits including lower risk of heart disease, lower risk of type 2 diabetes, and lower risk of both liver and colorectal cancer.
How much caffeine is in coffee?
On average there is around 95mg of caffeine in a cup of coffee. With accurate coffee brewing we dissolve (or extract) the same percentage of coffee regardless of the brewing method. That is, in theory, although the concentration of flavour will change then the total amount of caffeine should be relatively consistent whether your final beverage is a 30ml espresso or a 250ml filter brewed coffee.
Where does coffee come from?
Coffee is made from the beans in coffee cherries which are grown in the “Bean Bel” - 20 degrees either side of the Equator. The bean belt includes countries like Colombia, Brazil, Indonesia, India, Kenya, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Tanzania, Mexico. Coffee beans are harvested from the coffee trees as ripe cherries. Then, they go through different processing methods to extract the coffee beans.
